Your role and responsibilities

The mission of this team is to bring modern and disruptive power electronic solutions from research into product development. We enhance ABB’s products through holistic optimization, advancing novel converter topologies, and refining key components. By joining us, you will be at the forefront of academic research and industrial applications, shaping advanced technologies for ABB’s future solutions.

The work model for the role is: #hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:
• Simulating and optimizing power electronic topologies and converters for various applications
• Designing, implementing, and testing converter prototypes in the lab
• Driving innovation by developing new power electronic concepts and solutions
• Leading and participating in converter design projects while collaborating with business line partners and mentoring junior colleagues

Qualifications for the role

  • PhD with emphasis on power electronics converter design, optimization, and converter prototyping.
  • Excellent track record in commissioning of power converters with special emphasis on embedded design and programming for control of power converters incl. FPGA (VHDL) and Microcontrollers.
  • Experience in design and/or commissioning of three-phase grid connected inverters/rectifiers will be advantageous.
  • Hands-on laboratory skills, a willingness to work independently and take initiative in designing, building, and testing converter prototypes.
  • Experience in medium voltage power electronics design, incl. good understanding of passive design such as magnetics and capacitor banks can be advantageous.
  • Experience in applied control theory for power electronic systems can be advantageous.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
